The Robinson Jeffers Association (RJA), founded in 1990, is an organization of scholars, students, and general readers who share an interest in the work of the major American poet Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962). It is a member organization of the American Literature Association and is officially recognized by the Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation (affiliated with the National Trust for Historical Preservation).
Mission Statement:
The Robinson Jeffers Association encourages and supports scholarly and critical work focused on or related to Robinson Jeffers, seeks to enhance awareness of and appreciation for Jeffers’ contributions to American and world literature across academic disciplines and for the general public, and sponsors programming and publications that advance these goals.
The association works to enhance the understanding and appreciation of Jeffers’ poetry through a range of initiatives, projects, and programs, including
- its sponsorship of the scholarly journal, Jeffers Studies,
- organizing sessions at regional and national conferences,
- holding its own conferences,
- developing digital programming and resources to support the study, appreciation, and teaching of Jeffers and his work.
The RJA provides several grants a year of up to $500 for projects that support the study of Jeffers’ work, life and times. Grants are also available to undergraduates, graduate students, junior faculty and independent scholars for travel to RJA conferences or other conferences where the applicant will be presenting a paper on Jeffers. The RJA is a not-for-profit organization operating in the State of California and is tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.
